Making the Right Choice

Premium vs Budget Tyres

Both are legal and safe — but there are real differences worth knowing about before you buy.

Premium Tyres

Michelin · Pirelli · Continental · Bridgestone

  • Shorter wet braking distances — can be several car lengths
  • Better fuel economy due to lower rolling resistance
  • Longer tread life — often outlast budget tyres significantly
  • Lower road noise and improved ride comfort
  • More precise handling and cornering response
  • Full manufacturer warranty and independent test data

Budget Tyres

Cost-effective options for every wallet

  • Significantly lower upfront cost per tyre
  • Legal and roadworthy when new
  • Good option for older vehicles or shorter term use
  • Available in all common sizes
  • A sensible choice when budget is the priority
  • We only stock budget options we're confident in
Seasonal Tyres

Summer, Winter & All-Season

Different tyres are designed for different conditions. Here's what you need to know.

Summer Tyres

Above 7°C

Designed for warm, dry and wet conditions. Summer tyres offer the best performance in temperatures above 7°C — shorter braking, better handling and improved fuel economy.

Winter Tyres

Below 7°C

A softer compound and deeper tread patterns maintain grip in cold, icy and snowy conditions. A significant safety upgrade in harsh UK winters.

All-Season Tyres

Year Round

A practical compromise for UK drivers. All-season tyres perform well in both summer and winter — ideal if you don't want to swap tyres twice a year.

FAQ

Tyre & Brand Questions

Common questions about tyres, brands and what's right for your vehicle.

We stock Michelin, Pirelli, Continental, Bridgestone, Goodyear, Dunlop and Hankook, plus quality budget options. Call us on 07542 458195 to check availability for your specific size.

Your tyre size is on the sidewall — for example 205/55 R16 91V. The first number is the width in mm, the second is the aspect ratio, R means radial, the third is the rim diameter in inches, and the final figures are the load and speed ratings. Not sure? Give us a call.

For most drivers, yes. Premium tyres offer measurably better wet braking, lower road noise, improved fuel economy and longer tread life. Over the life of the tyre the cost difference often narrows. Budget tyres are a perfectly sensible choice when cost is the priority — we'll always give you honest advice.

Yes — we can source all-season tyres to suit most vehicles. Call us on 07542 458195 to check availability for your specific size and we'll advise on the best option for your driving habits.

The legal minimum is 1.6mm across the central three-quarters of the tyre around the full circumference. Driving on illegal tyres can mean a fine of up to £2,500 and 3 penalty points per tyre. We recommend replacing at 3mm — wet braking performance drops significantly below this level.
